SGA Updates: 10/24/23 - 10/30/23
The following is an overview from the previous week regarding updates on various branches, boards, and committees of SGA.

Executive Branch:
The Executive branch has been working on upcoming outreach and community events.
Marianna Green, Director of Student Engagement, shares that they held an educational workshop in collaboration with the Finances and Facilities Board to discuss table interactions with students. They have been finalizing details for the upcoming event Dawgs Night Out which will take place on November 2nd at the South Atherton Lawn from 5-6:30pm.
The Director of Finance and Facilities, Bryan Galang, has met with Butler’s Dining Wellness Manager, Katy Maher. They discussed upcoming sustainability initiatives and are working on ways to educate students about the upcoming Feast fundraiser. Bryan also participated in SGA’s annual campus safety walk.
Ryan Batista, Editor-In-Chief of the The Drift, shares that they have been editing photographs taken at Homecoming and from Fall sports. If any Fall sports team would like a specific game covered they should email drift@butler.edu to get coverage!
The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Student Belonging (DESB), Lauren Stubbs, shares that the DESB Board is facilitating their first DEI Training on Monday October 30th from 7-8pm. These training sessions are for SGA members to improve their awareness around bias, privilege, and identity and will be held in the Pharmacy building in room 106. The DESB Board also hosted a successful event for National Coming Out Day!
Julia Fryrear, the Director of Mental Health and Well-Being, has been working on planning the “Ending the Silence Presentation.” This event will take place on November 8th from 5:30-7pm in the Pharmacy building in room 156 and is partnered with NAMI & CCS. They have another upcoming event that will be held on November 3rd at 10am at Atherton, “Food for Thought Friday.” Bagels will be served and special guest Jules Grable will be discussing mental health along with her new job as the Director of Student Advocacy.
Judicial Branch:
Will Kissel, the Chief Justice of the Judicial Branch, has been busy reviewing homecoming applications as well as planning for the upcoming outreach event. The EOC campus event will be held in Atherton on October 31st from 4-6pm.
Legislative Branch:
The Legislative branch is busy planning new interactive gatherings for campus and hosting multiple successful outreach events.
Sadia Khatri, the Chair for the Diversity, Equity, and Student Belonging Committee, and her committee have planned an outreach event “Ask-A-Senator” that is taking place on November 2nd from 4-6pm in the Starbucks lobby. This will provide an opportunity for students curious about SGA and Senate to ask questions to Senate members.
The Appropriations Committee Chair, Sydney Haworth, shares that they have passed three new grants that will be voted on this upcoming week. They have also been prepping for their outreach event taking place on November 6th from 6:30-8:30pm. The event “Gyros with Grants” will be held in the Fairview community room to help students understand the grant process.
The University Life Committee Chair, Gracie Walls, shares that they held their successful outreach event on Friday, and they have a few new ongoing projects they are beginning to work on for the upcoming months.
The Academic Affairs Committee Chair, Maddie Siems, shares that they have finalized their outreach event "Cake and Comments.” This event will be held in the Starbucks lobby on November 10th from 12-2pm. They will be serving Nothing Bundt Cakes to students who fill out a survey regarding improvements for their respective college or curriculum. Siems will be meeting with the LAS Deans on November 6th to discuss students comments and concerns regarding the LAS college.
