The Student Government Association (SGA) at Butler is committed to bettering the student experience for attendees. Supporting over 150 student-run organizations, SGA’s mission is to be the voice for student leadership and advocate for the student body. To accomplish that, the association is provided funding that is allocated to provide additional assistance.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, SGA’s budget was $325,000, which was increased by $22,000 for the current academic year. A budget of $356,500 intends to help with the new plans SGA has to offer. The majority of the new funding, $20,000, will be allocated to the SGA leadership program, partnering with the Student Activities Office. The remaining $2,000 will be granted to the Uber program.

The new leadership program, led by Jesse Wanzo Neader, Director of Student Activities, is a start-up that allows students to become ambassadors for student activities. Ambassadors will be responsible for helping other students with involvement, starting an organizations and running them.

With all the funding for the new leadership program, the start-up will be able to distribute reimbursements along with a wide variety of other things. Similar to the layout of SGA, students will hold positions, including point people for student affairs, facilitators for leadership, personality and behavioral tests (Myers-Briggs), and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training. The new budget helps SGA issue certification for students as well, allowing them to add experience to a resume. Although the program itself is open to all years and majors, it will be primarily geared towards first and second-year students. All partnerships will be in collaboration with Neader.

Beyond funding for the leadership program, the money awarded through Senate grants will remain the same as last year, though with some internal reallocations. As the academic year begins, there is an increase in money for General Grants than there is for Green Grants and DEI. While the money is dispersed differently, it will be allotted elsewhere if needed for different funds.

Additional information about the allocation of funds can be attained by contacting Meet Patel, Student Body Vice President at sgavp@butler.edu. For any other concerns or inquiries, please visit our website.
