SGA Updates: 11/7/23 - 11/13/23

The following is an overview from the previous week regarding updates on various branches, boards, and committees of SGA.

The Executive Branch has been working towards preparing events for the remainder of the semester and evaluating events that have been successful this semester. Lauren Stubbs, the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Student Belonging, shares that they successfully presented their first DEI Training this past Monday, October 30th. The second DEI Training was held on Thursday, November 9th in room 106 in the Pharmacy building from 7-8 pm. 

The Director of Student Engagement, Marianna Green, has been working on their upcoming tabling and survey where they will be collecting feedback from students on campus furniture. There is an upcoming event called “Flip the Script” which will be held on December 11th from 9-11 pm and has been a Butler tradition in the past that Green reports they are excited to bring back to campus.  

Julia Fryrear, the Director of Mental Health and Well-Being, discusses the “Ending the Silence” presentation that was held in partnership with NAMI & CCS, where attendants learned how to recognize mental health scenarios and ways to cope. They are currently working on a partnership with Bon Appetit and Butler Brew for a new mental health awareness campaign. 


The Legislative Branch has been working on upcoming new projects to bring to campus. Gracie Walls, the University Life Committee Chair, shares that they approved two new grant resolutions at the Senate meeting this past week, for DECA and CRU. 

Sydney Haworth, the Appropriations Committee Chair, discusses the successful “Gyros with Grants” outreach event that took place this past Monday. Haworth has updated office hours that are now at 5:30 pm due to the weekly committee meeting being moved to 4 pm. 

The Academic Affairs Committee Chair, Maddie Siems, shares that their outreach event “Cakes and Comments” was a success and they would like to thank everyone who participated and provided feedback. They are now preparing for their upcoming meetings with the Deans of LAS and JCA.
